Highlights of the CISD Board Meeting - February 10, 2025

Dear CISD Community,
Welcome to our monthly school board meeting newsletter. This edition brings you some highlights of the school board meeting that was held on February 10, 2025. Our goal is to keep you connected and informed each month.

TIA Teachers
Teacher Incentive Allotment Designated Teachers
Comfort ISD recognized the first group of teachers designated under the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) by the Texas Education Agency. They are (left to right) Melinda Nevels (Master Teacher), Melissa Valenzuela (Exemplary Teacher), Karla Jackson (Recognized Teacher), Cameron Hernandez (Recognized Teacher), and Kathy Lampkin (Recognized Teacher). Mr. Gayne Young was not present, but he was designated as a recognized teacher. These teachers will keep this designation for 5 years and will also receive monetary compensation from the state.
ATSSB Regional Band Students
CHS Band Students Recognized
CHS band students were recognized as the "Blue and Gold Stars" on Monday night for participating at the ATSSB regional band auditions at Burnet High School and advancing to area round. CISD is very proud of their accomplishment!
CES UIL
CES UIL Students Recognized
Several CES UIL students were recognized at the board meeting for placing at the district UIL meet that was held in Blanco. They were given a medal for their participation. Overall, CES placed 2nd at the district UIL meet. Congratulations to all!!
CMS UIL
CMS UIL Students Recognized
Comfort Middle School students were recognized on Monday night for placing at the district UIL meet that was held in Llano on January 31st. Students were presented to the school board by the CMS UIL coordinator Mr. Chris Mulliniks.

Information Items
  • Superintendent Dr. Munoz reported on the Comfort Education Foundation Golf Tournament that will take place in Fredericksburg, Texas, on March 22nd, the district wide committee meetings that have been held to date, the next board meeting that will take place on March 3rd, and reminded the school board about the Summer Leadership Institute that will be held in San Antonio from June 11th-14th. A first reading of policy update 124 was given to the board indicating the revisions.
  • School Board Member Mrs. Kristina Patton gave a brief legislative report about the trip to the legislative day that she and other community members attended in Austin, Texas, on January 16th. She also mentioned the newspaper article that was submitted to the Kerrville Daily Times regarding the visit to Austin and the focus on advocating for public education and school funding.
  • Director of Academic Services Dr. Boothe gave a report about the December EOC exams results and the Texas Annual Performance Report (TAPR).
  • Director of Administrative and Support Services Mr. Mike Colvin gave the board information about the Teacher Incentive Allotment, the assistant principals/counselors meetings, and a safety update. He also discussed the intruder detection audit report since there was finding on February 4th.
  • Athletic Director Jay Rieken reported on the basketball season for the Bobcats and Deer, powerlifting meets, golf, baseball, softball, and track.
  • McLemore manager Kristen Sheppard gave an update about the disinfecting of classrooms with the 360 machine as a proactive measure to ensure students are not exposed to germs.
  • Operations Director Trent Wilson gave a report on the maintenance of the softball and baseball fields, the installation of the end caps at the softball field, the continual maintenance of the school grounds, vehicle and bus maintenance, and an update on the fire marshal check list.
R&S Recognition
Information Items
  • CISD made a special recognition on Monday night. Shawn Rust from R&S Excavation was recognized for his generous donation of over $148k for upgrades made to the CHS baseball and softball fields. This was a huge savings for CISD. The total cost was over $187,000 and the district only had to pay $39,000 because of the donation R&S Excavation made. We are extremely grateful for the work that was made to both fields.


  • Written reports were provided for all other departments and campuses. Some highlights of the written reports included a total enrollment of 478 students at the elementary, 229 at the middle school, and 364 at the high school. Each campus report included information about safety, academics, campus activities, counselor activities, communication with parents, staff appreciation/community partners, and upcoming events. Note that all information can be found on the campus weekly newsletters.

  • The school board adopted the revised 24-25 district calendar to make-up the bad weather days that were taken on January 9th and 21st. Staff will now have a workday on April 21st and both staff and students will have a regular school day on May 12th.
