Highlights of the CISD Board Meeting - April 14, 2025

Dear CISD Community,

Welcome to our monthly school board meeting newsletter. This edition brings you some highlights of the school board meeting that was held on April 14, 2025. Our goal is to keep you connected and informed each month.

Boys Powerlifting Team

CHS Girls Powerlifting Team

The "Blue and Gold Stars" recognized on Monday night were the CHS girls powerlifting team. The girls had an outstanding season with some of the athletes advancing to the regional and state competition meet.
CHS Boys Team

CHS Boys Powerlifting Team

The CHS boys powerlifting team was recognized on Monday, April 14th, along with their coach Clint Hyde. They had a successful season that included an appearance at the state powerlifting meet in March.
Informational Items

Information Items

  • A second budget workshop for 2025-2026 was held at 4pm. The next budget workshop will take place at 4pm on May 12th.
  • Superintendent Dr. Munoz reported on celebrating "Purple Up" in April to recognize Military Child Month, the summer leadership institute on June 11-14, the TASA/TASB convention on Sept. 11-14, the teacher recruitment fair held on April 7, and the Marine Corps JROTC program update and next steps.
  • School Board Member Wes Holekamp gave a bilingual committee update on the visit to the Mark Twain Academy.
  • School Board Member Mrs. Charlotte Kneupper gave an update on the Education Foundation Golf Tournament that was held on March 22nd.
  • Director of Academic Services Dr. Boothe gave a report about benchmark assessment results along with the gains and declines. She also reported that there was a 7% improvement on students reading below grade level when comparing it to last school year.
  • Director of Administrative and Support Services Mr. Mike Colvin gave the board information about the Teacher Incentive Allotment, meetings that he has held with assistant principals, health and wellness update and school presentations, safety, thermostats, and the awarded federal grants.
  • All campus principals gave presentations. Each discussed their STAAR preparation plan and upcoming events. CES currently has a student enrollment of 476, CMS has 229, and CHS has 340.
  • Athletic Director Jay Rieken reported on state powerlifting meet results, district golf tournament results, current standings for baseball and softball, the upcoming district tennis meet, and the upcoming track and field regional meet in Abilene and qualifying athletes.
  • McLemore janitorial services gave an update about the cleaning schedule for spring sports, the safety meeting that will be held, and the summer school cleaning and waxing plan.
  • Operations Director Trent Wilson gave a report on the ongoing maintenance of the fields, the preventative maintenance completed on the school vehicles, the shatterproof film that was installed at DAEP, the door replacement and hardware upgrades, and the ongoing routine and preventative maintenance efforts for HVAC, plumbing, and electrical work across all campuses.
JROTC

CHS Approved for a Marine Corps Junior ROTC

CHS is pleased to announce that they have been approved to establish a Marine Corps Junior ROTC in 2025-2026. Col. Jeffrey Holt played a crucial role in assisting the campus in submitting the initial application back in the fall of 2023. The next step for the campus includes recruiting students and hiring two instructors to lead the program.

Action Items

  • The school board approved the 2025-2026 Allotment and TEKS Certification to be submitted to the Texas Education Agency.
  • The superintendent was granted the authority to approve contracts for new hires for the time period of April 15, 2025 to September 8, 2025.
  • The board approved the implementation of the a bilingual two-way, early-exit, dual language program starting with one pre-kinder classroom for the 2025-2026 school year.
  • Teacher contracts were approved for the 2025-2026 school year.
  • A new high school counselor was hired for the 2025-2026 school year.
